It is way more exciting to find something you didn’t know was there. It opens up a whole new range of possibilities.
When scientists are “surprised,” that’s when the fun starts.
Curiosity Zooms in on Mt. Sharp’s Layers
A year from now, if all goes as planned, NASA’s Mars rover Curiosity will be in the hills and valleys of Mount Sharp, a three-mile high mound of layered rock rising from the floor of Gale Crater.
The first high-resolution, focused images of Mount Sharp, released Monday, surprised scientists who realized that the mound has tilted layers of rock on top of layers that are positioned relatively horizontal.
Like cake, it may have the potential to sustain life. Can’t wait for the nom reports from Curiosity.
