On July 23, 1701, the spot on a river we now know as Detroit had a population of 0.
On July 24, 1701, 311 years ago today, the population was about 100.
Antoine de la Mothe Cadillac had arrived.
Cadillac was the leader of a band of soldiers and French Canadians adventurers who came ashore and claimed the land for the King of France.
