Futurist Paul Saffo speaks with Curiosity about what thoughts keeps him up at night. He explains that,

“Every generation alive has always felt it has lived in the most interesting and unique moment in history. Of course, it’s always unique because you don’t know how it’s going to turn out. But this moment in history really is remarkable. The things that are happening now have never happened before, and things like them have never happened before.

Take one small detail. Sometime in the last two years, we crossed over a line in the country where more people are living in cities than live in the countryside…. This has never happened before in the history of the human species and, arguably, it’s never happened for any species ever before on this planet. That’s astounding.

And yet, we live in a time where the most astounding events go zipping past with barely a mention. Well, we’re busy, preoccupied with silly things, like the latest mistake of some Hollywood starlet. This is a moment of extraordinary events.”
